Smartphones are getting tougher. A reality demonstrated by organized but also unannounced crash tests. Remember a few years ago, an iPhone 6s survived after falling from an airplane. Very recently, a parachutist was able to experience the robustness of apple smarpthones.

On his TikTok account, Hatton Smith shared a sequence where he indulges in his passion: parachute jumping. Video in which we can clearly see his precious iPhone slipping out of his pocket. Given the altitude of 4270 meters at this time, we imagine that the last hours of the smartphone have come. But it is nothing.

An iPhone can survive a fall of 4200 meters… with a good case

Despite the height and the speed at which it fell, the iPhone (the identity of the model is not specified) only escaped with minor scratches. A lesser evil since it was still functional despite its infernal descent. There are several reasons for this happy ending. First, the iPhone was covered by an ultra-resistant Catalyst shell which allowed it to withstand the shock.

Accused of having entered into a partnership with the hull manufacturer, the parachutist denied having signed any contract. If the solidity of the shell explains in large part why the iPhone did not break, we must also mention the impact zone. Smith’s smartphone landed in a swampy area and not on hard ground where the damage would have been far greater.

You can watch that amazing footage below. And if crash tests pique your curiosity, these drop tests reveal who has the stronger display between the Galaxy S23 Ultra and the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
