Hispanic support for the Republican Party rises ahead of elections

The Hispanic population in the United States is 60.3 million, which would be 19.1% of the total population of the country. The Republican Party knows the importance and value that this minority, the fastest growing, can add and is working to increase the support of this group for the conservatives.

In the framework of the 2024 Republican National Convention, Jaime Flórez, spokesperson for former President Donald Trump’s campaign, highlighted the importance of Hispanic participation in the elections to be held on November 5.

“Our presence here is something that makes us feel very proud. Without a doubt, our presence at the polls on November 5 will be transcendental in these elections. We have every reason to vote,” he said in an interview with journalist Gabriela Perozo, from Claro y Directo, in collaboration with DIARIO LAS AMÉRICAS, from Milwaukee.

Floréz highlighted the Republican Party’s efforts to attract Hispanic voters, noting that “we are people of work, of faith, of family, and that aligns with the values of the Republican Party.” In addition, he criticized the management of current President Joe Biden.

He also stressed the importance of returning to a solid economy like the one he says was experienced during the first Trump administration, “we need an administration in the White House that addresses the problems of Latin America, that confronts these dictators that we have in some of our countries and that imposes sanctions so that they have an effect, not to be lifting them a few months later, without the countries that were the target of those sanctions having done anything.”

Flórez said that the presidential campaign was “running TV commercials during the Copa America and contrasting what life was like four years ago compared to what it was like now. Most people, Hispanic and other groups, will say that it was better four years ago.”

Illegal immigration

The Republican presidential candidate’s campaign manager also stressed the need for an administration that maintains a solid and orderly immigration system, avoiding an open border that negatively affects the economy and quality of life of Hispanics.

“We cannot allow a completely open border, since those who arrive are not necessarily Hispanic or from Latin America, as the media sometimes suggests, but from other continents such as Africa, Asia and the Middle East. These people, willing to work for lower wages and benefits, can undo the achievements of Hispanic communities in the United States in recent decades,” said Flórez.

It is estimated that around 10 million people of different nationalities, including from “enemy” countries such as China, as well as from Arab nations, have illegally entered the United States through its borders during the Joe Biden administration.

“New perspective”

Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar, for her part, highlighted the change in the perception of Donald Trump after a near-death experience that, according to her, has given him a new perspective and made him a different man.

“Trump is a new man, because after having had the experience he had, the almighty is giving him a second chance,” said Salazar.

He added that Trump is seen as a strong and resilient leader, with qualities highly valued by the Hispanic community.

Salazar said Hispanic support for the Republican Party is on the rise, with expectations of exceeding 50% of the vote in the next elections.

“Now everything indicates that up to more than 50% of Hispanics could be voting for Republicans, something that had not been seen before. Before, they voted 45 or 50%, now they can vote more than 50%. Now we see Republicans more focused on campaigning for Hispanics, because Hispanics are changing because they do not like the Democratic message,” said the congresswoman.

These statements reflect the Republican Party’s commitment to gaining Hispanic support and its campaign strategy for the upcoming elections.

Both Flores and Salazar agreed that the Hispanic vote will be crucial in the November elections and that the party is actively working to win their support.
