As in any Harry Potter game worth its salt, Hogwarts Legacy will have a long list of spells with which we can interact with the world, fight against all kinds of enemies, etc. Today, at MARCA Gaming, we want a review of each and every one of them. However, we will do it in a slightly different way.

In general terms, spells can be categorized into different groups, although in some cases this is confusing . That is why we have decided to slightly manipulate it to encompass them more intuitively, at least from our perspective. Because? Well, because there are aspects that can be somewhat confusing, such as the category of essentials. This is why we have taken several licenses.

Essential Spells

The essential spells are, without a doubt, some of the most important in the game . They’re pretty generic, so a lot of them can actually fall into other categories. However, we have decided to leave some out to make it easier to understand. We’ll separate them into their respective categories to make it easier.

And what are they? Well, the essential spells are those that we can learn and use both inside and outside of combat and that fulfill important functions in the resolution of the main campaign , puzzles, secondary missions, etc. That is, those that allow us to interact with the world outside of battles in a natural way and that are ‘allowed’ by the game.

Accio : spell that allows us to move, attract, etc. objects from a distance. It also works as an attack movement that allows us to launch enemies into the air.

Alohomora : a classic of the saga. We all know the spell, but we explain it to you just in case. Alomohora is a ‘spell’ that allows us to open all kinds of locks, although there will be limitations.

Desmaius – Another franchise classic. The Desmaius spell has the ability to stun enemies momentarily. This makes them unable to perform actions (in many cases) for several seconds. Also, it amplifies the damage they take. It has a second utility: breaking rival shield enchantments.

Ancient Magic Cast : Brand new spell. Its function is to summon objects to launch them with great speed. Although it may seem otherwise, it is not designed to do damage, although it can also cause it.

Petrificus Totalus : Who doesn’t remember it from the books and movies? In any case, this spell allows us to turn enemies into stone. If he has a high resistance to this state or is far superior to us, he will take damage, but will not be petrified.

Protego : protective spell that can defend us from enemy attacks in combat, but also serves as a protective barrier against other elements. It has included a ‘parry’ system through which, if we make a perfect block, we will return the attack with increased damage.

Revelio – The Witcher 3’s witcher’s view, AC’s assassins’ view, etc. That is, a spell that highlights useful elements of the environment.

Utility Spells

By their very definition, utility spells could be considered essential . We separated them due to the fact that they have some pretty unique features. If they all came together, it would certainly be more confusing, but we can understand them as an extension of these first ones.

Disillusioner : Camouflage spell. It is ideal for exploring instances stealthily, as it allows us to blend in with the environment so that we go unnoticed.

Lumos – We’ve seen it hundreds of times in books and movies. This ‘spell’ causes light to sprout from the tip of our wand. It will have additional functions to visibility, as there will be puzzles that will ask us to use it.

Repair : with this spell you can repair various damaged objects, which will be necessary in various parts of the story.

Wingardium Leviosa : “it’s Leviosa, not leviosá.” Sorry. Wingardium Leviosa allows us to make objects levitate.

Damage Spells

As its name indicates, damage spells are those whose main function is to reduce the life of our enemies. Here we list those that can do it directly, although in other categories we can find other ‘spells’ with this ability, such as the Casting of ancient magic. Within the damage spells we are going to distinguish between two types: damage and essential-damage , because this second category is one of the most important in the game.

Basic Cast – Brand new spell that has been designed for the game itself. It is an especially simple attack that does reduced damage to enemies and objects. It also works as an essential spell, since we can use it out of combat.

Ancient Magic – Not to be confused with ‘Ancient Magic Casting’. With this we must fill a meter that will later allow us to execute attacks with a lot of damage capacity. It also works as an essential spell, since we can use it out of combat.

Damage

Bombard : as its name indicates, it generates a kind of explosion. It is one of the spells that can do the most damage. It can do area damage.

Confringo – Projectile-type attack that stands out thanks to its range. Deals damage on impact with the enemy.

Diffindo – cutting character spell with which we can attack both enemies and objects from a distance. It is mid-range and does quite a bit of damage.

Expelliarmus – depending on the situation, it is useful or damaging. It is one of the most iconic spells from the books and movies. With it we can disarm our enemies and take away the wands or weapons they carry. If you don’t have any, you’ll take damage.

Fire – short range spell, but good damage capable of releasing flames from the end of the wand.

Movement Spells

We call movement or force spells those that allow us to manipulate the environment by moving objects, for example. Any of these spells can have additional utilities outside of combat, being very close to the essential ones. So much so that we have moved Accio to that category, for example. The others are:

Depulse : Generates a repulsor force that can throw back and push all kinds of objects and enemies.

Descendo – Perfectly, it could be a damage spell, but since it works indirectly, it’s not categorized as such. Roughly speaking, it causes enemies to slam into the ground, taking damage in the process.

Flipendo – Causes enemies to flip up and back.

Control Spells

Another variant with many utilities that can give us great opportunities in combat . They are not damage, but they are especially good when we face different types of enemies and situations.

Momentum Arrest : Many lovers of the franchise will know this spell, but we will also explain what it consists of. Being sparing, it slows down the movement speed of objects and enemies.

Glacius – Plain and simple, freezes enemies. Also, increases the damage they take from subsequent attacks.

Levioso : allows us to levitate our enemies and various objects.

Transformation : as its name suggests, it transforms enemies and objects into other things. In what? You will have to discover that for yourself.

Unforgivable Curses

Spells that should not be used under any circumstances, according to the lore of the series. They are only used by dark wizards who have “gone bad”. They produce very negative effects, or death, in those who receive them.

Avada Kedavra : Instant death.

Crucio : spell of pain and torture that produces very strong pain and constantly.

Imperio : spell capable of manipulating the will of those who are affected by it.

Room of Requirement

Set of spells that are especially important in the Room of Requirement when it comes to customizing it.

Summoning Spell : Can summon items to be used in the Room of Requirement.

Alteration Spell : Modifies the physical appearance of various objects in the Room of Requirement.

Evanesco : allows us to make objects disappear in the Room of Requirement to obtain Opal.
