Although an update for the PC version of Hogwarts Legacy has just arrived, the optimization problems are still felt and many users complain lag, stuttering, and framerate drops. If you too are experiencing these annoying problems, here are some tricks that could help you improve the situation.

Adjust the graphics settings

The first solution you should try in case of problems is the most obvious one, which is to lower the graphics quality in the video settings. If your PC doesn’t have a recent video card, try adjusting both i graphic presets that the resolution, both factors that greatly affect the fluidity. If, on the other hand, you have a video card from the Nvidia RTX family (i.e. from the 2000 series onwards), activate the DLSS and set that feature to Performanceso that smoothness is prioritized.

Update your drivers

Another step to follow in case of problems is to update video card drivers to the latest version, as these updates often include various fixes related to recently released titles and allow them to work better.

Restart Steam

Some users of Hogwarts Legacy in the PC version have reported that it is possible to have an improvement in performance if you perform a quick reset during the game session. In case you should notice a deterioration in performance compared to when you started playing, it could be useful save progress, close the game and restart Steam. This way you should be able to start playing again in better conditions.

Turn on hardware acceleration

If you are a Windows 10 user, you could try activating the feature called ‘Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling’. To enable this option, open the Windows settings screen, select System and then Screen; then scroll to the bottom and then click on ‘Graphic settings’. In this new screen, put the check on ‘Hardware accelerated GPU planning’ and restart the PC to be sure that the change is applied to the system. In case of problems, you can disable the option on the same screen.

Manually edit the configuration file

Another possible solution that could improve the performance of Hogwarts Legacy on PC is to add some strings of code to the configuration file. To do this, you must first reach this file: press the key Windows + R to bring up the Run window in the lower left corner, then type ‘appdata’ (without quotes) in the text field and click on ‘ok’ to reach the system folders. From here, you need to follow the path below: “AppDataLocalHogwarts LegacySavedConfigWindowsNoEditor”. In the last mentioned folder you will find a file called Engine.iniwhich we advise you to make a copy in case of emergencies.

Open the file with a text editor e add the following lines of code to the bottom of the file:

[SystemSettings]

r.bForceCPUAccessToGPUSkinVerts=True

r.GTSyncType=1

r.OneFrameThreadLag=1

r.FinishCurrentFrame=0

r.TextureStreaming=1

r.Streaming.PoolSize=3072

r.Streaming.LimitPoolSizeToVRAM=1

[ConsoleVariables]

AllowAsyncRenderThreadUpdates=1

AllowAsyncRenderThreadUpdatesDuringGamethreadUpdates=1

AllowAsyncRenderThreadUpdatesEditor=1

Save the changes and exit the file, then start the game to verify that, net of a slight decrease in visual quality, whether or not you have resolved performance issues. It should be noted that this system only affects PCs that mount a signed GPU Nvidia and the “3072” value can be increased if you have a video card with a lot of VRAM (with 6GB it is advisable to enter 2048, with 8GB 3072 is preferable and with 12GB you can get to 4096).

Check the files on Steam

Another possible cause of problems could be some missing or corrupted file in the game installation folder. To remedy problems of this type, just start the file verification: open the Steam library, right-click on Hogwarts Legacy and select Property. Then click on ‘Local Files’ and select ‘Verify integrity of game files’. The client will perform a quick check and, in case of missing or corrupted files, it will start their download and subsequent installation.

Make sure you meet all system requirements

If none of these tricks worked, there is a chance that your PC does not meet the minimum system requirements of Hogwarts Legacy.
