Announced years ago, the sequel to Hollow Knight is longing for. To wait, a fan has accomplished a real feat.
2D metroidvania are legion in the world of video games. Many studios have tried it, not all have shone. But in 2015, Moon Studios was able to do well with Ori and the Blind Forest, a game that is both quite demanding and poetic, with a visual and sound universe that is as enchanting as it is melancholy. The success of the game gave birth to a sequel, but also to a slew of similar titles. Among them, the excellent Hollow Knight, whose sequel is still awaited.
A player creates their own version of Hollow Knight Silksong
Hollow Knight was released in 2017. Its sequel, titled Hollow Knight: Silksong, was made official in February 2019. And if gameplay could be seen during two trailers, the title of Team Cherry is very discreet. Too much, moreover, for the taste of some. A fan, wishing to familiarize himself with the game’s engine, Unity, therefore decided to create his own demo of the title. In a post on Reddit, “Team Cherry took too long so I made Silksong myself”, the user Falcon175 shares a video of about twenty seconds. There are many assets from the first game, simplified, the time of a short demo. For a job done in three days, the result is impressive.
Unfortunately, that’s all we’ll have to settle for while waiting for the real version of the game. For its part, Falcon175 wants to avoid problems. He therefore specifies: “this project was just a way for me to learn Unity. All assets are obviously the property of Team Cherry and this “game” will not be distributed in any way”.
A sequel that remains in the shadows
It must be recognized that the video posted on Reddit is quite impressive. But on our side, we would like to discover the true Hollow Knight : Silksong ! First announced on PC, Mac, Linus and Nintendo Switch, the software was confirmed on Xbox much later, in June 2022. It will also be available day one on the Game Pass! It was on this occasion that a new 1’20 trailer was unveiled. A few months later, we learned that the PS4 and PS5 would also welcome the metroidvania.
According to the latest information, taken from an Xbox listing, Silksong should be released no later than June 2023. But we are at the end of April, and the deadline now seems very, very short to us for the bet to be held.
