Bayern Munich suffers a tough setback ahead of decisive clash with Real Madrid

BERLIN.- Bayern Munich suffered a 3-1 defeat to Stuttgart and Raphaël Guerreiro’s injury on Saturday in their last Bundesliga match before the second leg of the Champions League semi-finals against Real Madrid.

Guerreiro had to leave the game early with an apparent muscle injury and is doubtful for Wednesday’s decisive game in the Spanish capital.

Borussia Dortmund’s alternative team did some warm-up work ahead of Tuesday’s semi-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain with a 5-1 win over Augsburg.

Dortmund veteran Marco Reus scored one goal and assisted another in his first match after confirming he will leave the team at the end of the season after a 12-year spell.

Dortmund coach Edin Terzi made 10 changes to the team that beat PSG 1-0 last Wednesday, only repeating goalkeeper Gregor Kobel in his position.

Bayern counterpart Thomas Tuchel made six changes from the side that drew 2-2 with Madrid in Munich on Tuesday, with Guerreiro, Alphonso Davies, Aleksander Pavlovic, Serge Gnabry, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Mathys Tel starting. instead of Noussair Mazraoui, Konrad Laimer, Leon Goretzka, Thomas Müller and Leroy Sané (all substitutes) and Jamal Musiala (not in the squad).

But their plan suffered an alteration with the early injury of Guerreiro, who had to leave the field in the 17th minute.

Stuttgart defender Leonidas Stergiou opened the scoring in the 29th after making a one-two with Deniz Undav. It was the 22-year-old Swiss defender’s first goal in the Bundesliga.

Harry Kane tied it in the 37th minute with a penalty that should not have been scored. The TV replay showed there was minimal contact between Waldemar Anton and Serge Gnabry, who exaggerated his fall with his hand on his face.

That didn’t matter to Kane, who converted the shot to reach 44 goals in 44 games for Bayern this season.

Jeong Woo-yeong scored Stuttgart’s second goal in the 83rd after combining with fellow substitute Silas Katompa Mvumpa, before Silas sealed the victory in added time.

The distance with Bayern Munich is reduced:

Stuttgart closed the gap with Bayern in second place to two points, with two rounds left to play. Both have already assured their participation in the Champions League.

Wolfsburg defeated relegated Darmstadt 3-0 at home and Werder Bremen drew 2-2 with Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Cologne, threatened by relegation, later faced Freiburg.
