Hollywood speaks out on Joe Biden's withdrawal from the electoral candidacy

LOS ANGELES.- Hollywood was quick to react to the news that the president Joe Biden He ended his candidacy for re-election and gave his support to the vice president Kamala Harris.

Barbra Streisand, a Democratic supporter, wrote on X on Sunday that “we should be grateful for his defense of our democracy.” While many paid tribute to Biden’s presidency, others wondered about the future.

Cher wrote on X that she thought Biden’s resignation was the Democrats’ best chance of winning. She had written in a post, which she said she made before seeing Sunday’s Biden news, that she felt “tortured” because she didn’t think Democrats could win with Biden. She said it was time to think “outside the box” and proposed a split ticket.

In recent weeks, several prominent Hollywood names had begun calling for Biden to drop out of the race. Just weeks after headlining an unprecedented fundraiser for the president’s re-election campaign, George Clooney wrote an op-ed in the New York Times calling on Biden to end his candidacy.

Clooney argued that the party should choose a new candidate, saying the process would be “messy” but would spur voters on in favour of the party.
