By 2023, the Secretary of Territorial and Urban Agrarian Development (Sedatu) plans to support more than 100 municipalities for the creation of their urban development programs and sustainable infrastructure.

According to Román Meyer Falcón, head of the Sedatu, the goal for municipalities to update their urban development programs is to combat inequalities in the territories, especially in the most marginalized in the country.

“We continue to promote coordinated work with municipal governments to update the Development plans, since it is there where the land use is determined. Planning is essential for territorial development, it generates great benefits such as the reduction of inequalities and makes the use of public resources more efficient,” said the official in his participation in the XXXIV Meeting of Ambassadors and Consuls (REC 2023).

Among the objectives that have been raised in this administration, and that are embodied in the National Program for Land Planning and Urban Development, are the following:

During his participation, Meyer Falcón recounted what was done by Sedatu during this administration, for which he highlighted that through the Urban Improvement Program, between 2019 and 2022, almost 940 works have been carried out with an investment in more than 41,000 million pesos, interventions have been made in 135 municipalities in 25 states, benefiting more than 8 million people.

“The result of this work is that in four years of government, Sedatu has received 94 awards and recognitions in national and international architecture and urbanism competitions,” said Meyer Falcón.

Likewise, the official noted that through the National Housing Commission 250,795 direct supports have been delivered to families, while the National Institute for Sustainable Land has carried out 38,000 land regularization actions.
