One of the most important avenues in the city already has “green Wave” at all its traffic lights, based on an initiative promoted by the mayor Julio Garro as part of Strategic Plan 2030. It was applied on 44th avenue, from 131 to Route 36, both for the outward and return leg. In a second instance, work will be sought from Route 36 to Route 6.

Contemplating the round-trip roads, the first interval included the traffic light crossings of 133, 135, 137, 139, 143, 149, 155, 157, 161, 167, 170, 173 and 185. It should be noted that the “green wave” was implemented at a speed of 50km/hachieving that the 30 minutes required to get from 185 to 31 will decrease to approximately 12, the same thing happening in the opposite direction. After that, it is planned to complete the remaining ones up to Route 6, located at 197, 200, 203, 208, 217 and 227 with a duration that will be transformed to 16 minutes by the crossing of Etcheverry.

The operating hours are from Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. to enter the town and from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. to leave, while from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. it will not be in force.since the circulation is even.

THREE WORK PHASES

The first of the three phases that this initial stage of intervention contemplated consisted of a general survey of traffic light times and vehicle flows, which allowed for an engineering evaluation in transit of the coordination of each crossing.

“We carried out a meticulous study where we verified that the cycle of traffic light times was different and they were out of phase”explained the secretary of Urban Planning of the Commune, Maria Botta.

After that, each crossing controller was installed, with the corresponding programming and the verification of its correct operation, to finally analyze the behavior of the vehicular flow in the “green wave” and evaluate possible corrections.

“A positive impact was observed on the flow of traffic and on the reduction of waiting times at traffic lights”Botta said, adding that “there was a significant decrease in congestion during peak hours.”

In addition, the official assured that the system “improved the efficiency of public transport, making it possible to reduce travel times and resulting in optimal use of its resources, which could have a positive impact on reducing the use of private vehicles.” .

It should be noted that, with a view to this ambitious intervention, the Commune carried out the enhancement of the entire traffic light park, since it required a modernization of the devices with adequate technology to be able to synchronize them. Likewise, the Municipality announced that it will carry out continuous monitoring to evaluate the effectiveness of the system over time, that it will consider its expansion to other parts of the city and that it will implement communication and education campaigns to inform drivers and users of public transport.
