Before the Speculation about the identity of the winner of the $1 billion Powerball jackpot in Californiathe lottery in that state released a statement explaining the procedure to claim such a prize.
In the document with the header “What happens when someone wins the jackpot in California”the entity points out that the California Lottery does not know who the winner is until the person submits the claim documents that must include the winning ticket.
“This can be done in person at any of the nine California Lottery offices at the customer service desk. the players too you can send your claim and the winning ticket by email; Certified mail is highly recommended,” the statement said.
“The California Lottery has no way of contacting jackpot winners proactively; the player must realize that he won and present himself, ”said the entity.
Application documents and detailed instructions for completing the process are available on the lottery site.
The winner must submit the claim in a period not exceeding one year from the date of the draw.
Once the initial process is completed, before disclosing the name of the winner or winner, lottery staff proceed to verify the claim to see if it is legitimate.

Public disclosure of winners’ identities is required by California law through the State Public Archives Law.
However, the Lottery noted that names are announced publicly, either in a press conference or statement, once the verification process is fully completed.
In the California Lottery press release released this Monday, the entity does not refer to the legal action filed by José Rivera for the alleged theft of the winning ticket of $2,000 million in the draw of November 8 last.
The Lottery, Edwin Castro and Urachi F. Romero are listed as defendants in the appeal filed on February 22 in a Los Angeles County court.
