The 23-year-old man from Brockton, Massachusetts, who is accused of shooting a Boston police officer Friday night, is due to appear in court Monday for an arraignment.

John Lazare is scheduled for a hearing in Roxbury District Court sometime Monday as he faces various charges including aggravated assault on a police officer, armed robbery and various firearms offenses, according to the Office of the Suffolk District Attorney.

Police say the officer Lazare allegedly shot was patrolling the Cedric Street area Friday night in Roxbury when he recognized a wanted suspect in the armed robbery of a delivery man that occurred a couple of days earlier. The man matching the suspect’s description was allegedly pointing a gun at a Domino’s pizza delivery man.

Investigators say that as the officer approached Lazarre, he allegedly fired multiple shots at the officer, hitting him in the lower back and foot.

The officer who was shot is recovering at the hospital.

Lazare was arrested after jumping from a nearby roof. Two other officers were injured in the chase, but not by gunfire.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu said Sunday that it is a testament to the incredible work and training of the Boston police that the officers were not only able to arrest the suspect, but also care for the injured officer until medical help arrived.

“I am so thankful that he is recovering and I had the opportunity to talk with him and see his family,” Mayor Wu said. “This is one of those moments that reminds you how much every hour of the day our police officers are putting in jeopardy.”

The injured officer was wearing a body camera.

The suspect had multiple warrants for his arrest prior to this incident.
