Tutorial How to transfer your saves and video games between your PS4 and PS5
It is possible to very easily transfer your backups as well as your games between the PS4 and the PS5. This is the great advantage, the PS5 accepts all games from the previous generation console.
Compatibility between PS4 and PS5
The main advantage of the PS5 for PS4 players who are still hesitant to buy one is compatibility. Indeed, you can find your entire game library directly on your new PS5.
The transfer of backups, games, but also trophies will be done to the PS5. No need to buy your games in PS5 version, or even start them again. You can thus pick up exactly where you left off in your game, with an even larger catalog as a bonus. Easily transfer data from PS4 to PS5
There are thus several methods, more or less easy and practical, to transfer data from your old console to the new one. You should also know that you can also do these same steps between two PS5s.
The first prerequisite is to have the same PlayStation Network (PSN) account between the two consoles.

With an Ethernet cable
The easiest and above all the fastest method if you have your PS4 and PS5 close to each other and the cable option. All you have to do is connect your two consoles via an Ethernet cable. The HDMI cable connected to your television will only be able to connect the PS5.
- On your PS5 console, go to Settings > System > System Software > Data Transfer then Continue
- The PS4 should automatically appear
- Tap Data Transfer from PS4 to PS5
- Once the PS5 console displays the message “Preparing to transfer data” you must press and hold the power button of your PS4 for at least one second. A noise will tell you to release
- Select the data you want to transfer between the two consoles
- Once all your options are checked, you can select Start Transfer.
Do not touch the PS5 anymore, it can automatically restart during the transfer. Once this step is completed, the transfer continues and you can use the console as normal.
Transfer between your PS4 and PS5 wirelessly in WiFi
This is the same procedure as the previous one. The only additional requirement is that both consoles must be connected to the same WiFi network. You can then choose the PS4 to start the transfer. It should be noted that the transfer will be longer than by cable. The data will have to pass from the PS4 to the Internet Box, then to the PS5.
Use a hard drive or USB drive
If you are already using an external hard drive, it is possible to simply plug it into your PS5. There will be no further steps. On the other hand, for exclusive titles or which take advantage of the performance of the PS5, they must be on the internal SSD of the console and not on a hard disk.
You can also download all your PS4 games to the PS5 directly from PSN. For backup data, it is either possible to go through a USB key or via the cloud backup function. For this you need an active subscription to the PSN.
