HPD expects early extradition of Hispanic accused in death of baby

HOUSTON – Investigators with the Houston Police Department are waiting for authorities in Cameron County to extradite Diana Guadalupe Zavala, the woman accused of concealment of a body and tampering with evidence, in the death of an infant that occurred on May 2. April southwest of the city.

Zavala López, 25, was arrested on August 1 in the border city of Brownsville, after an arrest warrant was issued for her by the Houston PD.

The woman was identified as the person who would have left the body of a baby inside a bathroom at a gas station located at 13114 South Post Oak that day at dawn.

Emergency teams determined that the baby had died several hours before it was found in the gas station bathroom.

The suspect had been released from jail two days before the incident for domestic violence. The man had signed a restraining order from Becky Tamayo and from possessing weapons.

Houston police released security camera video Monday of the person suspected of abandoning the infant.

Shortly after it was learned that a woman with the physical characteristics of the woman in the video had been arrested and identified as Zavala López.

For information that would allow his identification and capture, a $5,000 reward was being offered.
