"I do not think it's a good idea": The director of The Mandalorian confesses that he was not sure about adding Baby Yoda in the series

If there is a project that has turned out to be a success in the Star Wars universe in recent years, it has been The Mandalorian. The series starring Pedro Pascal has gained a large number of fans, and one of the main people responsible for the enormous popularity of this show has been one of its directors, Dave Filoniwho has managed to perfectly capture the essence of the franchise.

However, the director himself was not sure whether to add to Baby Yoda, a character that has become one of the most beloved in the entire series. During the documentary third season From Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian, the American filmmaker confessed that when Jon Favreau proposed the idea to him, he almost immediately discarded it.

“Jon wanted to add Baby Yoda. I was like, ‘What? How? Why would we do this? That doesn’t seem like a good idea.’ But, you put that initial fear aside and say, ‘Okay, well, we’re going to really break this down.’ And I was like, ‘Jon, if you’re going to do this, I’m going to be right there with you. Because I know Yoda is one of George Lucas’s favorite characters and we can’t mess it up.'”

The manager knew that Grogu had to fall from grace of the people, since although he is not a “son” of Yoda, he belongs to the same species and automatically many would consider him as the already known Baby Yoda. Fortunately, this experiment turned out to be a complete success, as the little alien of unknown origin quickly became the baby we all wanted to have.

The Mandalorian It has not stopped receiving good reviews since its first season, and although it is true that the level and rhythm have been a little more irregular in this last season, it is undeniable that Jon Favreau’s project has fit perfectly into the universe of Star Wars.
