I forgot it existed and wasn't expecting much, but it got me to uninstall two of my favorite video games

Have you ever thought about the number of video games that are released each year? I am not referring only to great releases like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom or the imminent Starfield, but to all video games, large or small, that become available. If you have never questioned it, I am going to give you a quick answer: many, more than anyone can control.

When you start looking at the numbers, you realize that reproaching someone who doesn’t remember or mess up a release date is unfair, to say the least… and let’s not talk about video games that are delayed several times. The more you like the variety and/or keep up to date with what is coming, the more chaotic everything becomes. There is no notebook or application that helps enough that nothing escapes.

In my case, I use a notebook to keep track of the games that really interest me. In addition, I add symbols to mark those that have me sunk in hype, which ones I will buy (and when), which ones I am merely interested in and which ones I can play later without problems. And still I tend to have the list out of date and forget about some games.

Remnant 2: great forgotten, great discovery

Remnant 2, developed by Gunfire Games, is one of those games that appeared at Summer Game Fest and caught my attention. I played its prequel a while ago, Remnant From the Ashes, and I didn’t dislike it… although it didn’t mark me too much either. I didn’t even remember to write it down in my notebook when I saw him, maybe because I didn’t give it much importance or because he forgot after work.

The story of the Call of Duty mission that became an icon of the franchise and changed it forever

I would have remained forgotten until I ran into him by pure chance. However, fate or causality meant that last Friday, July 21, a key arrived at VidaExtra to analyze it. I’m not going to deceive you: we didn’t go crazy to see who was going to get it. It was more like the last kid of recess the one they choose for the soccer game. I didn’t get very excited.

I love doing analysis, but at the same time I hate it with all my being. On the one hand, I like to transmit my way of seeing and feeling video games. On the other, play a video game to analyze it It’s not the same as just playing it. You’re going against the clock, you can’t play organically because you have to look at everything and take material (screenshots and video), and in my case it also implies have a notebook next to you because I am tremendously clueless and forgetful.

As you well imagine, I didn’t start Remnant 2 with a lot of encouragement… but that changed after the first hour of play. I already had everything written down about the menus, the options and all the basic things. Without noticing, I began to enjoy as a child to the point that I didn’t take a single note during the first world, N’Erud. And for the record, I hate that location. It seems ugly and poor. Then I was able to take notes because in addition I record everything so I can see it again.

The first session on Friday lasted between 2 and 3 hours each. Saturday was a strong day: I put in a good 6-7 hour session. Finally, on Sunday and Monday there were a couple of sessions of 8-9 and 2-3 hours respectively. In total they were around 20-21 hours to deliver the analysis. I finished up to the crown of playing, taking screenshots, recording and writing things down.

The rebound effect of Remant 2

When I finish analyzing a video game I am usually so fed up (of playing a lot and somewhat uncomfortable for the time) that I rarely touch it again. I remember that Kingdom Come: Deliverance it traumatized me to such an extent that it makes me want to cry every time it is mentioned.

remnant 2 It didn’t leave me quite that down, but it certainly did finish me off a bit to the egg cup of its final boss and therefore the game. However, in writing and posting the analysis (July 25), it happened to me that I call it the “rebound effect“: a crazy desire to replay it, but this time in my style, easy and without having to take notes on everything. It’s rare for it to happen to me and it usually hits very hard.

One day after publishing the analysis, they gave me the physical version of PS5 as a birthday present… even if I had bought it anyway. It would not be the first time. I know some of you think it’s silly, but it’s my way of showing my support (as a player) for a company that has made a game that I like. In addition to does not have crossplay and all my friends are on console.

The Ordeals has been the toughest challenge of Final Fantasy XVI that I have come across and my hands have ended up paying the consequences

He has me so hooked that he has managed to uninstall (finally and again) The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (539 hours) and Red Dead Redemption II (561 hours) to make room for Remnant From the Ashes and Remnant 2. I have not replayed the first installment in its entirety, but it has fulfilled its function: to buy time until the sequel arrived.

Two weeks ago I didn’t even remember that Remnant 2 existed and I didn’t expect too much either, but now I just want to replay it and spend hours until Starfield. Nor did I expect that it was going to make me uninstall two amazing video games I thought they were going to have me hooked until the release of Starfield. They have been an accumulation of coincidences or causalities that have led me to my favorite discovery of 2023. I love the magic of video games!
