Discovery of the diagnosis, course of care, birth of her daughter… The weather journalist from BFMTV, who has just given birth to a little girl, testifies to her fight against breast cancer diagnosed after six months of pregnancy.

“I’m going to heal myself, I’m going to heal myself.” Two months after the birth of her daughter, Virgilia Hess, weather reporter for BFMTV, came to the set to talk about her fight against breast cancer which she was diagnosed with during her pregnancy… From the announcement of the diagnosis to her journey of care, not to mention the birth of her daughter in the midst of this ordeal.

On December 22, while an obstetrician was examining her chest, a “small ball” was identified. The results of the breast ultrasound, obtained eleven long days after the examination, are formal: she is suffering from breast cancer.

“We hear the words but we can’t digest them at all. I was six months pregnant (…) We say to ourselves ‘it’s not possible at 32, it’s inconceivable'”, s’ remembered Virgilia Hess.

“No impact” of chemotherapy on the baby

Very quickly, the young woman learns that she will have to undergo chemotherapy to treat the cancer. To his surprise, the treatment will have “no consequences on (his) baby”.

“I even tolerated the chemo pregnant better than after the birth of my daughter. I felt like I was forming a duo with my daughter”, she confided on our antenna.

Since the birth of her first child, who “is going really well”, Virgilia Hess has continued chemotherapy. They “work very well” because the size of the tumor has already decreased.

However, like many people with cancer, the weather reporter says she suffers from side effects from her chemotherapy for more than a week each time. But nothing prevents her from “keeping a smile”, she says.

“This positivity and this morale is 50% of the work. There are ups and downs but I will heal myself, I will heal myself”, she proclaimed.

As for her daughter, without whom she might not have been diagnosed with her cancer, she admitted: “She saved me, she’s my angel.”
