After almost 10 years, to the saga of Guardians of the Galaxy within the MCU came to an end with the premiere of the Vol. 3 focused on the (tragic) story of Rocket, one of the main characters of this group along with Star Lord, Gamora, Mantis, Drax and Groot. Here we leave our review.
James Gunnwho has served as director and writer for all three installments, is now DC’s mere mere, and considering that Guardians of the Galaxy It’s more his than Marvel’s (which is good, very good), it was obvious that the story of this group of heroes would end soon… for some.
And when we say for some it is because (and sorry if this is a spoiler) The Guardians as we know them ended with this latest film. But their individual stories will continue.. We have to wait and see how it will play out, how long it will take to see them, and which way they will go without Gunn.
Rocket y Groot
Among the characters we would like to explore more, of course, is Rocket Racoon, who after being the heart of Guardians of the GalaxyIt has become one of our favourites. And the other, therefore, is Groot, who although he has served as an extension of RocketIt is more complex and interesting than it seems.
However. Speaking of Groot, we don’t know if they realized that this character looks very different in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as we saw in the first installment of 2014. But there’s a reason for this… and yes, it’s sadder than we thought.
Why does Groot look different in this Guardians of the Galaxy movie?
In the first movie of Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014, we meet Rocket Racoon and his accomplice Groot. Groot can only say “I am Groot“, and the only one who understands him and serves as a translator is Rocket himself. After they both confront Gamora and Peter Quill, they are arrested.
And from here, it is that they first unite with individual interests to share the profits of the Orb, to later be the guardians of the galaxy. AND Part of their coming together as a family is because of the various sacrifices the characters make throughout the film.
For example, when Peter Quill saves Gamora after Ronan’s attack on Knowhere. But the most decisive, without a doubt, is the one that Groot does towards the end in one of the most emotional moments not only of the film, but of the entire MCU.
Groot sacrifices his life to save them all, and that motivates them to make a sacrifice themselves for others. Yes, it’s that beautiful scene where Groot starts pulling branches out of his body to cover the rest, and when Rocket tells him he’s going to die, he replies “We are Groot“ (we are not crying, you are crying).
Groot is the son of Groot?
That means Groot dies in the first movie. The thing is, most of us think that Groot was reborn and was the same. And that’s why we saw him as a baby and then as a dorky teenager. But now we know that he is not the same Groot, but another Groot.
James Gunn said that the Groot we see growing up is the son of the Groot we first met. That only makes the character more wonderful. And this also explains the ending of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and that wonderful phrase in English that Groot says: “I love you, guys“.

That means that Groot is not that he has spoken in English, but that he he continued in his groot language, but we were able to understand him. Because? Because we spent almost 10 years of our lives with the character, and like the rest of the group, we managed to understand his language over time.
As we said, Rocket is the only one who understands it at first. by the end of Vol. 2 of Guardians of the Galaxy, we see that little by little others can interpret what he says. In Infinity War everyone understands the languageand it’s funny because Groot is a teenager who talks back ugly and everyone finds what he says very offensive.
For Guadians of the Galaxy Vol. 3there is no one who does not understand what he wants to say “I am Groot“. It took time for them to understand it. And it was the same time it took us to understand it. It’s beautiful.
