Sensational ! The Algerian startup Farm AIspecializing in the development of solutions for agriculture based on artificial intelligenceachieved the formidable feat of get the 2e square in the worldwide competition, Tech4Good, from the Chinese giant, Huawei.

The Algerian team also won People’s Choice Award by collecting more than 10,000 votes. She is ahead of the Azerbaijani team, Emitless, and the French team YONO Box.

What does the Farm AI startup project consist of?

The Farm AI project that won over the Tech4good international jury is part of the “autonomization of agriculture through artificial intelligence” approach. It consists of the use of drones for early rust detectiona cryptogamic disease (diseases caused by fungi) that affects wheat fields.

Specifically, the Farm Al project is titled “The Era of Empowering Agriculture with Artificial Intelligence: For a Disease-Free Farm”.

Its designers describe it as “an early detection system for rust disease using an artificial intelligence model for monitoring wheat fields with drones”. This “solves the problem of large losses of wheat fields due to rust”.

The Farme AI team consists of seven young students : Abderrahmane Herizi, Ahlam Boumerzag, Mohamed Aimen Benkoua, Mohamed Riadh Ziane, Ouassim Hamdani, Rania Hedna, Yahia Zarai.

During the final which took place this Thursday, January 5, 2023, the Algerian startup pocketed, thanks to its 2e square a check for $15,000. Next February, the FARM AI team will take part, with two other teams, in a new competition to, this time, try to win $100,000 sponsorship.

What is the Tech4Good project?

Tech4Good is a project that telecommunications giant Huawei launched in 2021. It is part of the “Seeds for the Future” digital skills training program. The 2022-2023 edition of the competition saw the participation of 65 students from 16 different countries and 11 startups.

According to the event’s homepage, Tech4Good asks attendees to “identify a social issue and propose [pour le résoudre] a solution based on information and communication technologies”. The competition also aims to “cultivate leadership and teamwork”.

The 2022 Seeds for the Future program had over 3,500 participants from over 117 countries. In Algeria, more than 120 students have benefited from the program.
