The singer, on tour, tells our colleagues from Parisian how he regained his health and taste for the stage.

Renaud is better. Asked by The Parisian as part of his new tour “In my strings”, started three months ago, the singer confides in his regained health. “I stopped smoking just two months ago. I smoked up to three packs a day! On my breath, I can feel the difference,” he explains. Now he vapes.

“I stopped drinking two and a half years ago,” he also recalls. “I’m a bitch. I play sports, I have a coach in Paris. The rhythm of three concerts a week, that suits me.” Going back on stage “gives him an emotion every evening”: “Legs that flagellate, a cat in the throat, but no tears.”

“I had the desire to move”

Proof of his regained health, Renaud, who had originally planned around forty dates, will continue his tour from September with around thirty other concerts. “I’m going to tour for another year, until August 2024, I’ll end up in Quebec, where I haven’t sung for fifteen years!”

Renaud no longer wanted to go back on stage, but finally found the strength: “I was bored. I had the desire to move, to return to hotel rooms, concert halls, to find my audience.” But no one believed it at first. “But I held on, like a challenge. And I’m getting there.”

He is working hard to find his voice. “I feel like over time she gets a little better. I’ve never been a great vocal performer and I have diction issues. I don’t know where that comes from, but I’ve been working on it with a vocal coach for two years.”

Soon a new album

Renaud planned to record a live album for the end of the year. A way for him, too, to forget his previous record, Métèque, an album of covers where he considers he “sung badly”: “I blame myself, because the arrangements are magnificent, but the voice is not at the appointment.”

Far from the splendor of the “Phénix Tour” in 2017, “Dans mes cords” is an intimate tour, with a few musicians (accordion, violin, piano). This tour will end at the Francofolies in La Rochelle on July 14 and 15. Dates are planned at La Scala in Paris on May 9 and 10, at the Casino de Paris on May 26 and 27 and at L’Olympia on May 30 and 31.

The singer has not been back on stage since the ‘Phénix Tour’ in September 2017. He had since released two albums, Kids and Kids First!on the theme of childhood, and metica cover album of his favorite French songs.
