In its biweekly press conference, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) avoided giving details about the negotiation for the advance disbursement of 10,000 million dollars requested by the Government of Argentina, although it acknowledged that “the impact of the drought is taken into account in the discussions.

“On March 31, the board completed the review with a disbursement of $5.4 billion,” recalled IMF Communications Director Julie Kozack. And she assured that today “we are working closely with the Argentine authorities in the context of a demanding economic situation.”

“The discussions for now are virtual. We do not have information on face-to-face meetings at the moment,” added Kozack, former deputy director for the Americas region and one of the negotiators who closely followed the Argentine case.

“The focus of the discussions for the fifth review is to strengthen the program taking into account the impact of the drought,” he reiterated about the negotiation with Argentina, something that the agency has been acknowledging in previous statements.

It is estimated that the drought represents 20,000 million dollars less for this year, which is sought to be compensated in the reserve accumulation and fiscal goals.

The questions included the negotiation for the disbursement, the position of the IMF on the intervention of the BCRA, the rise in inflation, the revision of the fiscal goal and the date to finalize the revision, among other points to which the spokesperson did not provide answers. .
