Several countries in the world are affected by the labor crisis. A solution that is offered to them, to appeal to immigration to attract qualified foreign workers and to overcome this shortage of personnel in their structures and businesses.

Among the latter, Switzerland. Indeed, this country has decided to facilitate its immigration conditions for and to relax the rules for granting work permits to foreign workers. Thus, foreign nationals will be subject to easier procedures when considering applying for a work permit.

In 2022, Switzerland recorded the lowest unemployment rate for 20 years. Indeed, the latter amounted to 2.1% while it was estimated, in 2021, at 2.6%.

In this wake, the federal department of justice and the police has decided to put in place numerous measures to eliminate the administrative obstacles which hamper the procedure for granting work permits to qualified foreigners.

In addition, to facilitate the process of granting this category of permit, the need for qualified specialists in sectors impacted by the labor crisis will henceforth be taken into account. Qualified foreigners who are in Switzerland with a residence permit can also obtain a simplified authorization to switch from a salaried activity to a self-employed activity.

Some work permit applications have been shortened and made easier so that they no longer require the approval of the Confederation. On the other hand, the possibility of making the processing of work permit applications in Switzerland even faster was rejected by the authorities concerned.
