Important note: Nintendo warns of problems with Switch batteries

That’s a tip you should have heard as a Switch owner. Nintendo is currently emphasizing that battery problems can occur if the console is not charged for a long period of time.

Battery care for the Switch: Charge at least every 6 months

Batteries need care and good treatment, which is what users are used to from the countless battery-bound devices that are in use in our everyday lives. Most of the time, however, the main focus is on how to deal with and the consequences of overcharging, but Nintendo is now ringing the alarm bells for everyone who has not charged their Switch for too long – and quite loudly.

The origin of the warning is Nintendo’s Japanese customer service, which recently published a corresponding note on Twitter. To avoid problems with the Switch battery, it should be fully charged at least once every 6 months. According to the group, if this recommended cycle is not adhered to, in the worst case there could be a complete failure of the charging option. How golem writes, this failure is linked to the technical structure of the switch batteries. Nintendo relies on lithium-ion batteries, which continue to discharge over time. It becomes critical when the power storage ultimately falls below the end-of-discharge voltage. The processes that then start inside the battery can cause short circuits.

Switch Batteries: Rare Warning

Nintendo likes to take its time to acknowledge hardware problems, controller drift being a famous example. In this respect, the reference to the behavior of the power storage is quite extraordinary. If your own switch already has such a problem with the battery, the only option is to replace it. This is currently possible with the console for around 40 euros.
