Ciudad Juárez.- The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Chihuahua warned that excessive exercise and without supervision can cause injuries and even problems over time. Laura Loeza Montero, coordinator of Prevention and Health Care, indicated that the accumulation of fat is generally more noticeable in the part of the belly, which is why many exercise without proper protection.

He added that others think that by eating little and doing strenuous routines of sit-ups, squats, exercises with bars and dumbbells, bicycles, and stationary treadmills, they will quickly lose weight, but they will only achieve decompensation, back injuries, and joints. The specialist pointed out that these types of routines should always be practiced under the supervision of personnel.

Loeza Montero pointed out that any exercise, no matter how simple it may seem, if done incorrectly and intensely, can cause injuries. For this reason, she pointed out that it is important to have experts who recommend precautionary measures against injuries, which can cause from a small muscle tear to back injuries, which in the long term can become disabling.

Therefore, he indicated that for all routines that involve carrying weight, the use of a belt is recommended, in addition to doing it in a way that does not fall directly on the spine, but rather on the support of some leg muscles. He added that eating should not be eliminated in order to lose weight, because the only thing that would be achieved would be to feel physically bad and with more lack of energy.

On the contrary, he said, by consuming it in a balanced way and in correct amounts, together with physical activation, excellent results will be achieved. Given the above, he added that Social Security urges all beneficiaries to schedule their annual PREVENIMSS checkup to verify their health and if they need to lose weight, in addition to a balanced diet, always include exercise, but in a healthy way.
