Two people died and another four were injured after being run over on Friday night by a driver in the middle of a birthday celebration in the Valencian Arriba neighborhood, on the PR-919 highway, specifically at kilometer 2.2, in the Los Pérez sector. in Juncos.
The driver, identified as José Luis Reyes Collazo, 56, was detained by the authorities for investigation.
The man, who was with him in his sixties, alleged that the gray Chrysler Caravan vehicle had mechanical damage to the braking system. After this, he lost control of the steering wheel and ran over the pedestrians who were on the public road participating in a birthday party in front of a house.
As a result of the tragic incident, 77-year-old Rogelio Pérez Martínez died instantly. Meanwhile, Eliut Rodríguez Vázquez, 55, died on the way to the hospital in a municipal ambulance.
The injured were identified as Alexis Berríos, 47, Yaritza Pérez, 41, Magalis Cruz Pérez, 57, and María Prado Aponte, 49. These were transported to different hospital institutions.
At the moment, it has not been reported if charges will be filed against Reyes Collazo.
