Juarez City.- Due to how dangerous it means to receive industrial waste in the sanitary landfill, the Municipality will prohibit this type of waste from entering the dump, said the municipal president Cruz Pérez Cuéllar.

“The first thing we want is to close the landfill to industrial waste, it is one of the causes that we saw that it causes; it is more difficult to cover industrial waste, and it is one of the issues that we will have to deal with with the new tender, ”he said.

The mayor made these statements yesterday after being questioned by the press about the fire that has been registered in the sanitary landfill since last Tuesday afternoon and that until yesterday had not been controlled by the fire brigade.

The municipal president assured that in the city there is a deposit for industrial waste that is private and charges the industry for putting their waste there.

“There is a landfill for industrial waste, and to save paying for that landfill, it is deposited in the Municipality landfill, so that is one of the measures that we are evaluating, which is practically a fact that we are going to take,” he declared.

Point pending for next tender

He added that this issue will be reviewed in the next tender for the concession of garbage collection and operation of the municipal dump.

The mayor noted that so far no decision has been made to apply any sanction for the fire in the landfill, which is the second to occur this year.

“Until now we have not made that decision, but one of the reasons for which we are evaluating this possibility is that while industrial waste is being received in the landfill, which is not made for that, there is that risk and there is responsibility of both parties,” said Pérez Cuéllar.
