On the 2nd, Lusa reported that the higher education establishment would have been the target of a computer attack, which left the institution without access to the internal network and to the ‘e-learning’ platform ‘moodle’, where students consult all the material educational.

“The Polytechnic of Leiria has serious suspicions of having been the target of a computer attack, this Tuesday, May 2nd, during the early hours of the morning. Following an alert received by the computer security incident response system, the Polytechnic of Leiria Leiria decided to disable access to the website, as a precautionary measure”, said the institution in a written response.

Access to online platforms and institutional e-mail was also limited.

Today, the Polytechnic clarified that, “for prevention, after the cyberattack alert, all ‘online’ platforms were turned off, including access to the Internet, which has already been reestablished, as well as access to ’email'” .

“The crisis office is, from the beginning, articulated with the competent authorities, namely the National Cybersecurity Centre, the National Data Protection Commission and the Judiciary Police”, said the institution.

The Polytechnic added that “the internal systems are being recovered and are gradually being made available” since Thursday, and “in the coming days, more services and access to information will continue to be restored, in a cautious way. , essential for the normalization of the institution’s activities”.

“To date, no ransom request has been formalized,” he said in the statement.
