Eating care is necessary to carry out any physical exercise safely, regardless of the modality. Hydration is an important factor both for carrying out activities and for body recovery. But after all, is it worth swapping water for coconut water in training?

“Nothing replaces the consumption of water”, says the professor of the nutrition course at the University Center of Brasília (CEUB) Paloma Popov.

“Water is the main source of hydration the body needs. Consumption of coconut water is also interesting because it contains more minerals and potassium”, she clarifies.

Questioned about the consequences for someone who promotes this replacement, Paloma is frank in saying that exaggeration causes serious damage to health. She stays alert for those who can’t see themselves without coconut water both in sport and in routine.

“Exacerbated and continuous consumption can bring some harm. It overloads the renal system. Those who are predisposed to kidney failure or who have kidney stones and high blood pressure are people who should avoid excessive consumption of coconut water. Because then these mineral salts can be in excess”, adds Popov.
