Cardiologist Fabrício Silva, from Hospital DF Star, explains that several studies are advancing in understanding these effects. One drawback, however, is that most of this research is focused on situations of alcohol dependence and chronic drug use.

Alcohol + anti-inflammatories
The effects of anti-inflammatories are potentiated with the ingestion of alcohol, because the intestinal absorption of the substances contained in this group of medicines is increased.
“This type of mixture has the potential for the development of a gastric ulcer and bleeding”, he says.

alcohol + painkillers
Used to combat mild pain, dipyrone intensifies the effects of alcohol in the body. The interaction between paracetamol and drinks can lead to drug-induced hepatitis.
alcohol + antibiotics
Some antibiotics, such as metronidazole and bactrim, are linked to greater toxicity to the body when taken with alcohol. The mixture can cause symptoms such as headache, nausea, and dizziness.
Furthermore, these drugs are metabolized in the liver. If the organ is already being demanded to process the antibiotics, alcohol can make the process difficult.O.
alcohol + antidepressants
Antidepressants, when mixed with drinks, have enhanced sedation effects. The effectiveness of the remedy decreases.
alcohol + insulin
Insulin, when associated with the use of ethanol, significantly increases the risk of hypoglycemia. Hypoglycemia, in turn, generates a serious complication, related to lower availability of glucose in the blood.
