UA group of scientists in Italy say they have managed to develop a prototype of an edible battery, which could represent a breakthrough in the field of ingestible medical devices.

The study, shared in the scientific journal Advanced Materials, indicates that the battery is formed by components found in almonds and capers and can be used to equip medical devices such as cameras and biosensors. With this new battery, the body would be able to digest the battery without further surgery.

Unfortunately, at the moment the battery can only be recharged outside the human body, but given that it is a prototype, scientists are confident of further advances in this project.
