FC Bayern is working flat out on a solution to replace Manuel Neuer. While Munich are in intensive talks with Borussia Mönchengladbach about Yann Sommer’s commitment, the record champions are apparently also conducting negotiations in Italy at the same time.
As the ‘Tuttosport’ and ‘La Repubblica’ unanimously report, Bayern have made an offer for Guglielmo Vicario from FC Empoli. There is talk of an offer of 15 to 20 million euros. However, that was not enough for the current twelfth in Serie A. Rather, one hopes for a sum of around 30 million euros for the 26-year-old goalkeeper.
However, the assessment of ‘Sky’ is different. According to the pay station, Vicario is not an issue on Säbener Straße. There is no corresponding offer from Munich. The goalkeeper would be a plausible solution.
The 1.94 meter brick wall
Vicario has not only recently been one of the best goalkeepers in Italy. However, the 1.94 meter giant flies under the radar on the international stage. In the past season no keeper fended off more shots than the right foot. After the 2021/22 season, he switched from Cagliari Calcio to Empoli for 8.5 million euros. In Tuscany, too, the Italian continues to show why he should have been nominated for the Squadra Azzurra long ago.
According to the statistics website ‘understat.com’, Empoli should have conceded 31 goals after 18 matchdays based on the shots allowed. But thanks to Vicario, the number of goals conceded is down to just 22 – there isn’t a goalkeeper in Serie A who makes a bigger difference. The Bavarians would have to stretch the price a bit to convince Empoli of a sale. Basically, according to the report, the club seems to be ready for this.
