Dortmund’s regular right-back Thomas Meunier (31) will be out for up to six weeks with a torn muscle in his calf, which is why the Black and Yellows felt compelled to add to the right-back position.

Meunier replacement needed

“There are major sporting challenges ahead of us, for which we need defensive stability. Julian Ryerson is an intelligent and, in a positive sense, very aggressive defensive player. We really like his profile, his character and his desire to leave the pitch as a winner at all costs. On top of that, he can be used both on the right and left in the back four and in the back three, which gives him and us additional flexibility. We are looking forward to Julian and are glad that we were able to implement this transfer at such short notice.”said sports director Sebastian Kehl.

Ryerson came to Berlin in 2018. In the current season he was the undisputed regular player and worked on both the right and left flank at Union. The right-footed player made 109 competitive appearances for the capital city and has made 15 appearances for the Norwegian national team.
