Under certain circumstances, there could be bidding between FC Schalke 04 and FSV Mainz 05 on the transfer market. According to Italian media, both Bundesliga clubs are vying for the same player who is looking for a new loan club.
The ‘Gazzetta dello Sport’ connects Schalke with Marko Pjaca. As a reminder: The now 27-year-old winger played for the Royal Blues in the second half of the 2018/2019 season. The guest performance was not really successful. In nine games for Schalke, Pjaca scored twice and failed to provide an assist.
Mainz and Espanyol too?
The former Croatian international is currently on loan to FC Empoli from Juventus Turin, but only makes sporadic appearances for the Tuscan club. It is quite possible that Juventus is therefore looking for a new loan club to give Pjaca more match practice.
In addition to Schalke, Mainz 05 are said to have put out feelers towards Pjaca, as Nicolò Schira reports. The Italian sources also agree that Espanyol have knocked Barcelona as well. Initially, however, all clubs only asked for information about the player and explored the situation, it is said.
