Suffering from alopecia which turns him white and causes him to lose his hair, the former Prime Minister relativized his illness “neither dangerous nor serious”.

“It’s easy for me, I’m lucky.” It’s a question that keeps coming up when the French look at their former Prime Minister: what happens to his hairiness? This Thursday evening on BFMTV, Édouard Philippe reassured them.

“I have what is called alopecia. I lost my eyebrows and I don’t think they will come back. My beard has turned white and it’s falling out a bit. My hair is also falling out. The mustache is gone “, he developed.

This disease is, as the mayor of Le Havre reminds us, “neither painful, nor dangerous, nor contagious, nor serious”. “That does not prevent me from being ambitious for my country”, he added, considering himself “in great shape”.

A chance”

Even if his change in appearance attracts attention, the former resident of Matignon considers himself lucky to be suffering from this disease at 52 years old.

“I suffer from it at 52, but there are people who are stricken with alopecia at 15, it’s not the same story at all. It’s easy for me, I’m lucky” , he confided.

He added: “I’m lucky to be able to tell those who suffer from alopecia that what matters is not how you look at them, it’s who they are.”

Stress, as a cause of alopecia?

While stress is one of the possible causes of alopecia, Édouard Philippe admitted that he was “perhaps” at the origin of this disease.

“Yes, I confirm to you that I have a stressful life. Of course you are stressed when you have responsibilities,” he said.

But, the mayor of Le Havre ended up concluding: “It’s a story of hair, after all.”
