The Brandenburg SPD expressed its opposition to the planned renaming of the House of Brandenburg-Prussian History (HBPG) in Potsdam: “Anyone who wants to eradicate the term ‘Prussia’ under the guise that the name is too long does not have a differentiated understanding of history,” said the cultural policy spokesman for the Brandenburg SPD, Erik Stohn. “Prussia isn’t all about militarism and confused princes cheering Hitler. Prussia is and was the identity of the state of Brandenburg.”

The background is that the operating company BKG had announced that it would rename the HBPG, as reported by the Märkische Allgemeine. Internally, the name had long been criticized as “bulky and outdated”.
