In any case, this is the promise made by Élisabeth Borne this Tuesday in the National Assembly, in the midst of a debate on the pension reform: “once the age of early retirement is reached, the reform does not provide for long careers with a contribution period of more than 43 years,” said the Prime Minister in response to a question from MP LR Véronique Louwagie.

A commitment that she later clarified: “this will also be the case for people who started working at 17 and whose early retirement age is set at 60”. A concession granted to the Republicans, whose deputies will play a crucial role in the vote or not of the reform of the government.

“We have undeniably made progress on this subject. […] it’s progress”, admitted the president of the LR group to the National Assembly on BFMTV.

“The reform showed age categories, especially among people who had started working at 20 and were condemned to make 44 annuities”, underlined Olivier Marleix on our antenna.

What about those who started working at 16 or 18?

Aurélien Pradié, LR deputy opposed to the government text, nevertheless asked the executive to specify its intention, in particular for French women and men who started working at 16 and 18 years old.

Considering the adjustments proposed by the Prime Minister, those who started working at 16 or 18 will indeed still have to contribute 44 years before being able to benefit from a full pension, according to information from BFMTV.

“What I understood, what the Prime Minister told us, is that we could exercise this right to retirement as soon as we have the 43 annuities. It’s up to them to explain themselves,” said declared Olivier Marleix on our antenna.

The amendment tabled by the government nevertheless leaves the possibility of future adjustments by decree.
