In Sweden, there are 1,600 registered businesses that offer beauty procedures. The salons deal with everything from botox and filler injections to hair transplants and aesthetic surgery. The Inspectorate for Care and Care, Ivo, has inspected 33 of the clinics and discovered a number of irregularities.

The authority notes that some salons lacked the equipment required to handle life-threatening situations in connection with operations. Almost half of the operations had staff who lacked authorization for the interventions.

Medicines were stored with chocolate balls

Ivo also saw major problems with the clinics’ hygiene and drug handling. Opened medication packages were stored in the refrigerator along with the staff’s chocolate balls. Fillers, which are essentially a disposable product, were reused.

Ivo now wants additional tools for supervision, to be able to stop more rogue actors. Today, the Patient Safety Act does not allow Ivo to supervise private residences where many of the injection treatments are performed. The authority also finds it difficult to supervise interventions that take place in hotels and various events.
