If Jacques Villeret’s acting career was well established, the actor nevertheless wanted to realize a big dream: that of moving into directing.

Jacques Villeret: “I would love to direct films when I grow up.”

During an interview dating from 1979, relayed by the INA on YouTube, Jacques Villeret confided about his dream of becoming a director. “I have a fairly precise idea. All of this is in development. Of course I’m waiting because we are subject to a minimum of things and ideas that people may have about you. But let’s say that I have still a precise idea. I would love to direct films when I grow up. And I believe that all the work that involves performing on stage or in the cinema as an actor is part of a whole that, I hope, will one day lead me to direct films. But I have no rush”revealed the one whose several films (The antidote, The Pétard Brothers) are available on Paramount+.

Jacques Villeret died before he could direct his own film

The actor’s sudden death was the end of his dream. On January 28, 2005, Jacques Villeret died from internal bleeding linked to alcoholism. He died in Évreux, in Eure, at the age of 53. Jacques Villeret is buried near his maternal grandmother in Indre-et-Loire, where he was born. The actor had health problems for several years. He had notably been hospitalized urgently five years before his death. This forced him to cancel several of his theater performances.
