With Jagged Alliance 3, the developers at Haemimont Games finally want to deliver a worthy successor to the legendary Jagged Alliance 2 after 24 years. During a presentation by the developers at Gamescom 2022, we were able to get an impression of the passion with which the creators, who are fans of the series themselves, approach this project. After all, the hopes of all Jagged Alliance fans rest on their shoulders. It is therefore not surprising that the most frequently expressed wish that developers hear again and again is that they should please not mess it up. To show once again how serious Haemimont is about capturing the spirit of the classics in Jagged Alliance 3, the studio has now announced in a new trailer that none other than Jagged Alliance creator Ian Currie is involved in the project.

Ian Curry founded his own studio, MadLab Software, in the early 1990s, with which he developed the first Jagged Alliance. His studio then became the Canadian branch of US publisher Sir-Tech, and Ian Curry became the company’s Director of Development. In this position he was also responsible for the development of Jagged Alliance 2. The veteran is now supporting the work on the successor as an author and, according to the studio, has been involved in the project from the very beginning. In the new Legacy trailer, Ian and the team unveil their collaboration and the designer talks among other things about the things that are important to him in a Jagged Alliance game.

For him, one of the most important core aspects is a strategy level, where the game has to make far-reaching decisions for the entire campaign. Also, the game must have solid tactical gameplay. The third pillar are the characters and their interactions between each other and finally the game has to tell an exciting story. Ian Currie also shared how pleasant it is to work with Haemimont Games, whose team is made up of a number of hardcore Jagged Alliance fans. So we can be curious to see whether the developers will actually be able to follow in the footsteps of Jagged Alliance 2. If everything goes according to plan, we’ll know more this year.
