As most people probably know, it has gone extremely well for James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water, which continues to climb towards the top of the highest-grossing films of all time, and a Hollywood success, of course, never goes unnoticed. The question of whether the director has any plans to launch a spinoff on Disney+ has thus been raised but Cameron, who is known for his grand, lavish feature films, says no to a TV series, this time too.

In an interview with L.A. Times then he talks about his love for cinema, and the feeling that cannot be conveyed via a TV, at least not for a number of years. If he is asked the question in five years, when machine learning and deep learning have become more established in the industry and the technology has dropped in price, the answer might be different, but right now it is not relevant, for several reasons. In addition to the fact that, as I said, he wants to create grandiose movie experiences to be experienced at the cinema and that the financial aspect is not sustainable for a TV series, he also has his calendar fully booked going forward, as Avatar already has three further sequels confirmed, with the fifth scheduled for a cinema premiere in December 2027.
