After keeping us company during the past holidays with their Christmas special, available on Disney+, the Guardians of the Galaxy are preparing to return to the big screen with the third chapter of their exploits, for what promises to be a film with a high rate of emotionality. Guardians of the Galaxy 3 it is not only the latest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe directed by James Gunn, who recently became the pinnacle of the cinematic dimension of the Distinguished Competition, but it is indicated as the last farewell of some beloved characters. A possibility that is partially mitigated by the arrival of a new figure particularly awaited by True Believers, that Adam Walock who, having missed his appointment with the Infinity Stones, must now carve out a space for himself in the franchise. Taking the opportunity of the presentation of a new image of the character played by Bill Poulter, James Gunn clarified Adam Warlock’s role in Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

During an interview with Empire, James Gunn clarifies Adam Warlock’s role in Guardians of the Galaxy 3

Not a real debut, if you will, considering that this character had been anticipated in the post-credit scene of the second Guardians of the Galaxy film, created as an instrument of revenge to be used precisely against Peter Quill and his companions. Reason why, speaking with EmpireJames Gunn clarified how fans should expect an Adam Warlock free from good-evil duality, accepting this particular nature:

It’s a little more complicated than that, but it’s ultimately not good. What we’re going to see is Warlock’s infant form, just out of his shell, and he doesn’t know life very well yet. Basically, he is a child.

A decidedly powerful child, who in the images of the trailer of Guardians of the Galaxy 3 seems to be on a collision course with the rambling band of galactic heroes.

Considering Gunn’s observation, it seems legitimate to assume that the introduction of such an important figure for the cosmic dimension of the House of Ideas comics, especially treating it as a first step, could lead to a subsequent development of the character, perhaps precisely as a consequence than what lived in this film. A hope that was also shared by the interpreter of Adam Warlock, Bill Poulter, who made no secret of wanting to re-dress the role of Marvel’s cosmic messiah:

I really hope so. You know, I honestly don’t know what the plans are, I honestly don’t know, hand on heart.

Making this appearance even more interesting is a well-defined image of Adam Warlock shown exclusively by Empirein which it is clearly seen that the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Warlock has maintained some of the basic characteristics of the paper original.

Although the gem embedded in his forehead is not an Infinity Stone as in the comics, thanks to the previous use of these artifacts in the franchise, Warlock’s appearance has a marked affinity to the original paper. For now, we only know that in Guardians of the Galaxy 3 Warlock will have, at least initially, the role of antagonist of the Guardians of the Galaxy, a condition which, combined with Gunn’s words, could make this clash with Quill and his associates a moment of growth for Warlock towards his heroic dimension.
