In recent years we have seen that video game adaptations have separated from their curse and several quality ones have emerged, including some anime. In the cradle of this medium, Japan, gamers were asked which video game they would like to see adapted as an anime, the winner was splatoon.

The survey in question was carried out by the site Anime! Anime! and was available to Japanese players from December 3 to December 11. In total, 1,609 responses were received, of which 60% correspond to female players and 35% to men, with another 5% unspecified.

Regarding the age of the respondents, the Anime! Anime! reports that the majority were young, since 55% correspond to players aged 19 or less and only 20% are in their 20s. As expected from a young Japanese group, the video game they would most like to see adapted into an anime is Nintendo’s Splatoon.

  1. splatoon
  2. Xenoblade Chronicles
  3. Legend of Zelda
  4. Undertale
  5. Fire Emblem: Three Houses
  6. Animal Crossing
  7. Kingdom Hearts
  8. Minecraft
  9. Jack Jeanne
  10. Buddy Mission Bond

This year we saw the release of Splatoon 3 for Nintendo Switch and it has been a huge success for Nintendo ever since, especially in the Japan region. For this reason, it is not surprising to learn that Japanese gamers want a Splatoon anime, especially knowing that the popular Nintendo shooter already has a manga.

Second place went to Xenoblade Chronicles, which has already played four video games in the last decade and its latest installment is one of the most acclaimed video games for Nintendo Switch. In third we have The Legend of Zelda, which has long been in high demand by Nintendo fans around the world.

This survey is not an indication of the upcoming anime that will be produced in Japan, but it does give us an idea of which are the most popular video games that could be adapted in the future.
