“Fall victim to the scissors” – the phrase refers to scenes, dialogues and actors who are not included in the production final version create a film or a series. Apparently this happened several times in the past to a not entirely unimportant figure from the Marvel Comics. Despite the numerous movies and series on Disney Plus, this character is still awaiting his debut in the MCU, although he has been close to it a number of times. We’re talking about none other than Thor and Loki’s brother, who is said to be played by an extremely popular actor.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe offers countless characters – but one is missing
who actually is Balder the Brave? According to the creators Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, it is one of the sons of Odin and therefore a brother of Thor and Loki. Because the prophecy says that Balder’s death will be the twilight of the gods Ragnarokand would thus also trigger the fall of Asgard, he was granted invulnerability.
However, Loki betrayed his family and tricked the blind deity Hoder into shooting an arrow made of mistletoe at Balder. Mortally wounded, he was rescued by Odin, but his hair turned gray and he took the path of the lonely, embittered warrior. As is now known, should Balder the Brave have already appeared in several movies. But that obviously never happened.
Marvel Cinematic Universe: Daniel Craig as Thor and Loki’s brother?
Graham Churchyard was in his function as a costume designer already on numerous blockbusters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe involved. He worked on Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Spider-Man: Far From Home, among others. As part of a podcast by ComicBook he revealed that the figure of Balder the Brave was on the verge of becoming part of the MCU several times.
Already for the first feature film over Thor an appearance would have been planned. In the sequels, too, the character was apparently dropped from the plot at the last minute. Completed drafts of the film character already exist in Marvel’s archives. For Thor: Love and Thunder scenes with Balder the Brave were firmly planned. And allegedly had in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness none other than James Bond actor Daniel Craig, who is to embody Thor and Loki’s brother.
With numerous blockbuster movies and series already in production for Disney Plus as part of Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there is still hope that there will be Balder the Brave maybe still make it in front of the camera. If it was actually Daniel Craig, that would be it MCU enriched by another charismatic world star.
