Jupiter, the gas giant is in the sights of Earth to carry out a new exploration process. In 2023, the European Space Agency (ESA) will send the Juice Mission, in order to analyze the icy moons of the planet.

JUpiter ICy moons Explorer, that is the origin of the name of Juice. The objective, according to ESA, is to fly over Jupiter’s natural satellites Ganymede, Callisto and Europa, to then enter orbit around the first, since it is considered that it can be habitable.

The launch It will have the collaboration of NASA and JAXA, the Japanese aerospace agency. Find out below the 3 most outstanding data of the mission.

The fate of the Juice Mission

As explained, Juice’s goal is to fly over Jupiter’s natural satellites, which are Ganymede, Callisto and Europa, in addition to exploring the environment of the planet, the archetype of gas giants throughout the Universe. It is expected that by 2031 remain in orbit around Jupiter.

From Ganymede and Callisto, the aim is to analyze the oceanic layers and the possible groundwater reservoirs; while in Europe, the main point is to determine the chemistry essential for life, including organic molecules.

What are the main elements of the Juice ship?

The spacecraft sent by ESA in conjunction with NASA and JAXA is Juice, as the name of the mission. It has 10 remote sensing, geophysical and in situ instruments, as well as 85 square meter solar wings. The instruments include the JANUS camera, the MAJIS visible and infrared imaging spectrometer, the UVS ultraviolet imaging spectrograph, and the RIME radar, among others.

When will the ESA mission launch?

Its release is scheduled to take place in the window from April 5 to 25, 2023, thanks to an Ariane 5 rocket from the European Spaceport in French Guiana, in South America.
