July 4th: Chaotic Night for 911

HOUSTON – In a press release issued today, the Harris County 911 Hotline (GHC 9-1-1) emphasizes the importance of reserving the number 911 for life-threatening situations. As the July 4th holiday unfolds, the organization urges the public to use non-emergency phone numbers to report complaints related to parties, excessive noise, fireworks and other disturbances.

The 4th of July is traditionally one of the busiest nights for emergency call centers and first responders. Yet these crucial services are often faced with overwhelming volumes of non-urgent calls related to fireworks, noise disturbances, and other complaints. These calls hinder response times to more serious incidents such as home fires caused by fireworks, car accidents, heart attacks, and other medical emergencies.

It is important to note that fireworks are prohibited in many cities

To report illegal use of fireworks or other non-urgent situations, individuals can contact the non-urgent phone numbers specific to their area:

-Houston: 713-884-3131

– Harris County: 713-221-6000

-Fort Bend: 281-341-4665
