CARACAS.- The Cultural Center of until Moderno (CCAM), in Caracas, celebrates 33 years of cultural management with Chromatic reflections. Tribute to Soto, Cruz-Diez and Oteroexhibition in which, through his work, the artist Juvenal Ravelo recognizes three iconic figures of kinetic art in the world who, like him, have made Venezuelan plastic arts a valuable national heritage with international recognition.

“2023 has been a significant year for the Cultural Center of Modern Art, an institution that, with a new name and renewed image, maintains the essence and vision that has led it to exalt art in all its forms for 33 years. Proof of this are the various musical and theatrical shows that it has hosted in the last quarter, to which is now added the plastic arts, with the inauguration of Juvenal Ravelo,” the CCAM reported in a statement.

The exhibition mainly favors the exhibition of two-dimensional and three-dimensional works, which constitutes Ravelo’s approach to the fragmentation of light and color, participatory art in the street and its correlation in new technologies and digital art, where The sensitive combinations of chromatic reflections in the movement become its main purpose: for the viewer to become a participant in this new aesthetic.

Tribute to Juvenal Ravelo’s teammates

“Con chromatic reflectionsRavelo recognizes and praises those who are considered his companions on the road, three main names in kineticism Venezuelan of international renown: Jess Soto, Carlos Cruz-Diez and Alejandro Otero, with whom Ravelo came to share reflections on the artistic fact,” declared Elida Salazar, curator of the exhibition and manager of Visual Arts at the CCAM.

This proposal reaffirms, at the same time, the contemporaneity of its creation, with the incorporation of current technology into its story, a tool that is not strange for kinetic art, according to what was observed by the researcher and teacher Humberto Valdivieso, collaborator of the exhibition.

This selection of works, which explores the integration of the artist’s studies on light and color to the digital environment and new technological gadgets, represents a festival of color in which participatory art, as is usual in the author’s work, It is a protagonist, regardless of the age or gender of the viewer and with the intention of expanding their vision and changing their experience within kineticism.

Baptism of the book Fragmentation of light and color

The opening of the exhibition contemplates the baptism of the book Fragmentation of light and color, edited by Fundacin Telefnica Movistar. The title of the text pays tribute to the story of the teacher from Caripito, as Juvenal Ravelo is also known.

This publication is a visual testimony of the artist’s career that highlights his focus on the kinetic movement, plastic geometry and his proposal for street participation art.

Both projects allow us to learn more about the work of the teacher, one of the most important exponents of scientism in the country. At Fundacin Telefónica Movistar we also believe in art as an instrument to revalue public spaces and this premise has been present in murals and exhibitions that we have carried out together with the protagonist of this book, said José Luis Rodríguez Zarco, president of Telefnica.
