Connor McDavid reached 100 points for the sixth time in his career when he recorded two assists in Edmonton’s game against the New York Rangers. The visiting Rangers still drew the longer straw in the match after a strong pick-up.

Connor McDavid leads the NHL’s scoring in superior style and during the night of Saturday he reached the dream limit of 100 sticks. McDavid picked up his 100th point when he set up Ryan Nungent-Hopkins’ 1-0 goal after just under eight minutes.

There was another assist for McDavid in the match. At the end of the first period, he assisted as Leon Draisatl scored 4–1 for Edmonton. The Oilers had a three-goal lead after the first period.

– We led with 4-1, but that did not reflect the picture of the match. We did some good things but we should have found a way to close the game, McDavid told the assembled press.

“We shall not lose”

After the first period, it was the Rangers for all the money.

– Our coach came into the locker room after the first period and said that we are doing good things and we should not lose this game, says Rangers defender Adam Fox.

Chris Kreider reduced in the second period, and at the beginning of the last Kaapo Kakko played forward Alexis Lafrenière to make it 3–4.

– Kaapo tried to get the puck in front of the goal and found me. I wanted to make the shot as quickly as possible and luckily the puck went in, says Lafrenière.

The Rangers completed the pick-up when Mika Zibanejad made it 4-4 with just over seven minutes left to play.

In the end, penalties were needed to decide the game and Rangers were better there. Kaapo Kakko neatly slotted his penalty and Lafrenière settled in the sixth round.

– It feels good to win when we were behind. We never stopped playing and managed to come back, says Lafrenière.
