Refinery operations were temporarily halted, the Ukrainian official said, adding that there were no reports of possible casualties.

“Last night, the Russians repeatedly attacked the Poltava region. Our air defense system did a good job against enemy drones,” he said.

The refinery has been repeatedly attacked by Russia since it invaded Ukraine last year.

Ukraine’s air defense systems shot down 17 of 24 drones that Russia launched over Ukraine overnight, the Ukrainian military said.

Reuters states that it could not independently verify the information.
