Karl-Theodor and Stephanie zu Guttenberg separated a few months ago, as has now been announced. They last appeared in public in May of this year. There were already signs of the broken marriage back then.
On September 15, 2023 it became public that Karl-Theodor51, and Stephanie zu Guttenberg, 46, have ended their relationship after 23 years of marriage. That confirmed Christian Schertz, the couple’s lawyer, told the German Press Agency and said that the separation was a few months ago. “Yes, it’s true, the couple separated on good terms last winter. They will continue to remain close friends,” said the lawyer. At the wedding of Ludwig, Prince of Bavaria, 41, the Guttenbergs last appeared together in public in May of this year. At that time they were already secretly separated and therefore avoided physical contact.

After they had already exchanged vows at a private ceremony, Ludwig, Prince of Bavaria, and Sophie-Alexandra Evekink married again on May 20, 2023 in the Theatinerkirche in Munich. Numerous guests were invited to their big wedding celebration, including the Guttenbergs. The former defense minister and his wife posed together and smiled for the cameras. But upon closer inspection of the wedding photos, it becomes apparent that the two of them refrain from tender gestures. Body language expert Thorsten Havener has now commented on the ex-couple’s appearance to “Bild”.
“It is very clear that there was already no connection between the two,” states the expert and adds: “The fact that he has his hand in his trouser pocket is also a clear sign of a barrier. When we are close to each other, we show “We unconsciously hold our palms with our partner. If we want to appear as a unit in front of others, then we stand close together and touch each other. There is no unity in the body language of both of them.”
Love ended after 23 years of marriage
Stephanie and Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg went to the altar in 2000 and are parents of two daughters: Anna, 21, and Mathilde, 20. The couple actually wanted to expand their family, but the wish remained unfulfilled. “I never talked about it. But my husband and I were really hoping for a third child,” says an excerpt from the book “We can do it better!”, which the 46-year-old published in October 2022.
