The management of the director of the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare -ICBF-, Conception Barakaldo has been strongly criticized in recent weeks, including the president himself Gustavo Petro He has asked to review some guidelines within the institution. In addition, during this period there have been several deaths of minors in La Guajira due to malnutrition, the last three were reported yesterday by the NGO Shipia Wayuu through its official account of Twitterwhere he assured that there would have been two girls and a boy.
The dissatisfaction has grown so much that in the last hours, the representative to the House of the party Green Alliance, Katherine Mirandahas expressed his indignation on social networks and called for Baracaldo’s resignation, the last time politics referred to the issue, he called the director on a motion of censure.
“Yesterday in La Guajira THREE more children died from MALNUTRITION…. Baracaldo’s resignation must be IMMEDIATE!” said Miranda, who in recent days has shown his disagreement with various issues and decisions made by the government, despite being part of the Petro administration bench.
To the request of the representative was added what was indicated by the Wayuú senator, Martha Peraltawho called on the institution and its leaders to restructure the ICBF care model and launched a criticism of the new director’s proposals.
“As long as there is no articulation and concrete actions of all the actors from the ICBF, EPSI, ESE, Community and Wayuú Authorities, the deaths will continue. The urgent care model must be changed and a review of the contractors that make supplies must be carried out”, noted the senator and added: “All wrong. The solution of the National Director of the ICBF, is to remove the nutritionist who was one of the officials who did his job correctly, made the reports and managed to move some institutionality to avoid some deaths of children.
It is worth mentioning that, in a recent interview in the newspaper Time, the ICBF director stressed that she has been the victim of an alleged media persecution. As she explained in her talk with that means of communication, the criticisms against her have to do with the fact that her profile, more than being political, is technical. And in this same space he added that the entity is not to blame for the death of children in La Guajira due to malnutrition, although it should be noted that on this issue, which so far there are 23 boys and girls, the president referred to the subject as a failure.
“My arrival at the institute, at the request of the president, has been precisely for that in which I have specialized: depoliticize and monitor resources. In my 37-year career, I have never had a call to action for improper conduct, I am a pensioner, and the president, knowing those qualities, decides to put me in office, ”he commented.
On the afternoon of December 28, it was learned that the deputy director of the Colombian Family Welfare Institute, Juan Carlos Urrutia, submitted his resignation from the entity, in the midst of the controversy in which it has been involved in recent months. The reasons for his decision to leave the ICBF, at the close of this note, are unknown.
The resignation of Urrutia, who took office on October 14, was accepted through resolution 6030 dated Tuesday, December 27 and signed by the entity’s general secretary, José Antonio Ramírez Parrado, who indicated that this is in accordance with the legal parameters.
