Right now, one of China’s largest covid-19 outbreaks is underway since the pandemic started. According to a British research analysis, may soon one million people are infected daily and 5,000 people die every day as a result of the virus.

This week, Italy announced that it is introducing mandatory tests for all people who have traveled from China, and a US Health Department source has said that the US is introducing a requirement for negative tests for all people traveling from China.

But there are currently no similar plans in Sweden, says the Public Health Agency.

– Our assessment is that there is currently no need to introduce measures for travelers from China, says Public Health Agency head of department Sara Byfors.

Would have no effect

According to her, the assessment is made that similar measures would not have any major effect here, as the spread of infection in Sweden and Europe is high. At the same time as the vaccination rate and immunity in Sweden is high.

– It was over a year since a completely new variant of the virus arrived. That something radically different would come from China is not very likely right now, says Byfors.

She adds that they follow developments in China and the rest of the world carefully and that they have a continuous dialogue with the government.

– We have the general recommendation to get vaccinated and not to travel here if you have covid-19 symptoms.
